Using Computational Fluid Dynamics to Enhance Flow Distribution

A new distribution system is evaluated in the design stage to evaluate the flow characteristics using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). A Star CCM+ model is created and then evaluated using the provided transport properties. Visual evaluation is made by plotting streamlines and then evaluating different views. Mass flow plots/monitors and created to determine and compare the resultant flow distribution. A main result is to have a long enough furnace inlet piping section beyond the last miter joint to minimize eddy current back-flow at these distribution injection points.
